How This Course Will Work

Over the coming 40 days, you’ll hear from more than 30 of our trusted friends, experts, expats, colleagues, and professionals from around the Continent with, among them, many, many dozens of years of experience doing the very things you’re now thinking about doing yourself: living and investing in Europe.

By the end of this course, we guarantee that you’ll be armed with all the expertise you need to make a move to Europe. That includes in-depth information on budgets, taxes, language… residency, health care, banking, insurance… plus, renting or buying a place to live, getting packages, handling credit cards, shipping your goods, bringing your pets…

We’ll cover seven countries in special detail: France, Portugal, Spain, Italy, Malta, Greece, and Cyprus. For each of these countries, we’ll spend several days introducing you to the country, letting you hear from an expat who’s already established a life there, hearing from a local residency attorney to go over its best residency options, and giving a glimpse into the current real estate market in each.

We’re going to start with a few points of move-to-Europe administration, though… there will be plenty of time for getting swept up in the romance of each country as we take our Grand Tour…

First, you need a foundation in the nitty gritty of it all. By tackling some of the more bureaucratic aspects of a move first, you’ll know what you need to keep in mind when you consider your new home. That way, you’ll be thinking about the practical side of things as well as the romantic when we set digital sail in a few days.

The three most important practical matters you must address at this early phase of your live-overseas thinking and planning are, first, residency options; second, housing; and, third, health insurance. These are what we’ll spend much of our first week reviewing.

From there we’ll make our first virtual port of call in Portugal…

We’ll spend a few days learning all there is for a potential expat to Portugal to know before diving back into the not-so-fun side of things… because then we need to devote a couple of days to talking taxes.

From taxes, we’ll scoot over to Spain for a few days… then to France, Italy, Malta, Greece, and Cyprus. In between each set of country lessons, we’ve sandwiched in a more general lesson… these cover everything from making friends and earning an income to shipping your stuff and opening new bank accounts… and a whole lot more.

But don’t worry too much about all that today… we’ll cover it all throughout the 40 days of this intensive course.

And don’t forget that you’re hearing it all from folks who have done it all already or who do this for a living. You’ll benefit from all the hard-won insider tips and tricks that we and our far-flung network of correspondents and gurus have accumulated over decades of experience, allowing you to sidestep so many of the pitfalls we ourselves have fallen into.

For most of these lessons, there will be homework and further reading, but, for today, we’ll let you off the hook.

Flip through the bonus reports and materials we’ve sent you… and take some time today to let yourself get excited. We’re about to embark on a thrilling journey across the Continent together… and it deserves some fanfare.

So grab glass of champagne and some camembert… or a chianti and some fresh olives… or maybe an espresso and a biscotti if it’s not quite cocktail hour yet… and let your curiosity and wonder take hold.

Then get a good night’s sleep—tomorrow we begin the Grand Tour…
