Spend time considering what type of homestead you would like to operate. It doesn’t need to be large—self-sufficiency is achievable on all scales.
Decide what kind of climate you’d prefer to set up stead in.
Look online for small holdings or acreages in your area of choice. Make a list of prices and sizes. Many farmers are willing to owner-finance the sale of land. Talk to some sellers to see if this is a possibility in your area.
Search for property that has unused assets on the property that could be used to repay the cost of purchase.
If you already own property that you wish to develop, evaluate the site using the criteria above.
