Day 10 Assignment

  1. Gather the materials necessary for making a compost heap. (Gathering takes the longest time.)
  1. Once you have enough materials collected, go through the process of making compost using the Berkeley method. Keep some compost for compost teas. If you like the process of creating value from wastes, continue it as a hobby or business.
  1. Collaborate with friends and neighbors to ask about community composting possibilities. Perhaps people want to compost as a group effort, perhaps they’re willing to collect materials to donate to your solo efforts, or maybe you can take turns making compost tea in batches.
  1. Get a 5-gallon bucket and make a small batch of compost tea and apply it to your garden.
  1. Make a 5-gallon batch of biofertilizer and apply it to your garden.
  1. Mulch around your plants in your garden to conserve nutrients and water.
  2. A month after you have added your soil supplements, review the differences in growth rates and soil health. Healthy soil makes for healthy plants!
