Day 19 Assignment

  1. Assuming you can get 3,000 to 4,000 pounds of fish per acre from a natural pond, estimate how much land you would need in aquaculture to become protein independent.
  1. Do you currently have the water supply available (not from the mains supply) to keep a pond filled year-round?
  1. If not, do you have enough water fall on or running through your property to keep a pond filled for six months per year? If you so, you can start into aquaculture.
  1. Research what fish and aquatic plants grow in your climate.
  1. Research what feed crops for fish are suitable for your climate and plant them.
  1. Excavate a small pond as per the instructions from Day 17 and stock your pond—lightly at first. As the pond matures you can put more and more fish into it.
