Today your homework is to read through the handouts we’ve shared with you today. Here they are again:
Take some time to think through if citizenship might be an option you want to keep on the table for yourself in your new home. If it is, then think carefully about your genealogy and if there might be an ancestry option open to you. If not, then keep your citizenship goal in mind when it comes time to choose a residency path—you want to make sure the residency route you’re on leads to naturalization, as not all of them do.
Browse the list of paperwork you’ll need to collect to apply for residency overseas. You don’t need to have it all collected overnight, but it will take you some time to track it all down, and one document or another might be a real time-consuming pain to find. If you prepare yourself now, you can take your time hunting for them over the coming months instead of being caught off guard a few weeks before your flight.
