- Inexpensive soil testing kits are available online or from your local farm- or garden-supply store. Get a soil testing kit and take samples from your garden area or proposed larger-scale farm. Test these samples for a basic look at how your soil is right now. With a little attention, it can be easily improved.
- Find a source for dried kelp powder in your area or online. (Buy a small amount, a little goes a very long way.)
- Start gathering organic materials for compost-making—tomorrow’s lesson. All sorts of organic matter can be used: kitchen scraps, leaves, grass clippings, sawdust, etc.
