Panama

With only a little over 4 million inhabitants, Panama has a small, young population, with plenty of space.

  • Climate: Tropical maritime. Long dry seasons and humid rainy seasons, with temperatures averaging 90°F.
  • Water: Rainfall in Panama ranges from 50 inches per year on the Pacific coast to 100+ inches in the Caribbean and mountain regions. This is plenty of water for most any requirements.
  • Growing Seasons: With high rainfall and warm temperatures, food will grow all year, as long as water harvesting and storage is managed.
  • Power: Panama is suited for solar power generation, though cloudy weeks might need a backup generator.
  • Access: Panama is less than 2,200 miles from the States. This is a long but manageable drive if you need to get to or from your bolt hole during a time when airports are closed.
  • Natural Disaster Risk: Moderate to high… Frequent landslides, intense rainfall and flooding, tropical storms, and ongoing earthquake activity make Panama more at risk than some other countries reviewed.
  • Legal Tenure Of Land: Foreigners can own land.
  • Political Risk: Low to moderate.
