If you’re planning to relocate to a country where the folks speak a language you don’t, start studying that language today.
Today.
Use the tips I offer above. Find a native speaker to practice with (you should be able to do this even in your current place of residence). Begin reading local newspapers from the place where you’re planning to relocate. You can do this online (using the Ultralingua software for help). Listen to a podcast.
Spend one hour today making some effort (whatever seems fun to you) to begin learning or to improve your skills in the language you need to acquire.
And make a plan for study going forward. I recommend one hour two or three times a week.
Start now, and, by the time you make your move, you’ll be ready and able to impress your new neighbors with the fruit of your efforts.
