Day 4: Climate Part II—Designing Your Homestead To Suit Your Climate

Dear Student,

As we discussed yesterday, you’ll need to adapt your living and growing spaces to best suit your climate. Correctly designing these spaces can save significant time, money, and effort over your lifetime, as well as increase your yield.

Today I’ll share some specific tips and insights on how exactly to design and construct your home and its land according to your climate. This type of home architecture is often referred to as passive home design, which indicates that a building was designed and built with some energy-efficiency standard or ultra-low energy construction, reducing its ecological footprint and requiring little energy for heating or cooling.

The techniques and processes mentioned here will be explained in detail in other classes, for now, we’re just laying out the basics for the sake of your homestead planning…
