Day 4 Assignment

We don’t recommend that you rent an apartment long distance, sight unseen, based solely on internet research… but we do recommend that you begin there.

Your assignment today, therefore, is to invest a little time on the internet searching for both agents and sample current listings in your locations of focus… and, as well, getting an idea of neighborhoods and inventory. What kinds of places are available for rent where you’re thinking you’d like to live? Houses? Condos? Apartments? Big? Tiny? With back gardens? With rooftop terraces? With ocean or mountain views? With swimming pools, gyms, and other communal amenities? With parking? With access to shopping?

With Google’s help, try to get an idea where, specifically, you think you might like to be located.

Make contact with two or three real estate agents (agents most places around the world handle not only sales but also rentals; also, remember that you should work with more than one, as listings are not shared). Begin conversations that will help you to further your understanding of the place, the market, current pricing, property type, neighborhoods, typical condo or building fees, etc.

All the while remembering that, on the ground, your ideas about where you want to be and what kind of property you want to rent could change dramatically.

That’s OK. This is an ever-evolving process.
